HeraldNet.com : Tulalip Tribes' cultural director lived for preservation

My uncle Hank Gobin has moved on in his journey to the other side. I’m proud to be Tulalip. I’m proud to be sduhubsh. I’m proud to be a Gobin. I’m blessed to have been raised with a family who values cultural teachings and strives to keep them alive. I believe it is what keeps us alive.

I am so excited!!! The canoes have been brought out and washed! Tonight we go out on the water. Do you know how every year we put them away at winter and I dream about pulling all winter long! Being on the water is where my spirit soars.

Per cap day today! Yeeeeyeah!

Best things about per cap day at Tulalip:

Money!

Donuts!

Seeing all your relatives (as if you dont see them everyday anyway hant)

Going to bank to cash check and see all your relatives again cashing their check too.

Going to Walmart and seeing all your relatives there after you all cashed your checks and laughing about it.

Going to Casino for a nice dinner and dancing then running into all your relatives yet again and dancing the night away.

Going home to bed and loving being Tulalip.

Coast Salish Life

Sorry for the swamp of photos today, I get tired of the stereo types of what a real, modern day indian looks like. I hope my blog shows people that we are still here, we are traditional, we are modern, we are individual… and actually my own indian life is different than everyone elses because we can not be formed into a box. I love the old photos and I love pow wow photos… LOVE THEM, but I also want to have coast salish people represented :) if you search the tags for salish and coast salish there isn’t a lot of stuff. Should you follow me you will get an idea that each native person is unique, with our simularites. In my native community we may not agree with everyone all the time, but we value and see each persons worth in the community.

I am Coast Salish. My culture is rich. I hope you enjoy a look into my life.
